How we started

HISTORY

Siblings Jessica Tibbetts, Emily Allenbach and Michael Tibbetts are the third-generation owners of JEM Worldwide and its Cayman Island and Turks and Caicos Islands subsidiary businesses. JEM Worldwide is a multi-generational business with continued investment to ensure its success for future generations. JEM Worldwide has been owned and operated by the Tibbetts family since their first resort opened in 1978.

The company was founded by Linton N. Tibbetts, O.B.E., a native son of Cayman Brac in the Cayman Islands who lived the American dream. He came to the U.S. with only a few dollars and became a serial entrepreneur through a more than 65-year career. His ventures included lumber and building materials, hospitality, airlines, banking, and real estate. Leveraging his success in the US, he played a key role in developing businesses throughout his native Cayman Islands including the Cayman Brac Beach Resort, Little Cayman Beach Resort, grocery stores, a building materials company and electric utility. Mr. T was awarded the designation of Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 2003 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for his service to his native Cayman Islands. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 88.

Linton’s son Dan also played a prominent role in building the family resort business. He built the Little Cayman Beach Resort in 1993 and launched Reef Divers, a valet dive operation on both Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. As the founder of Reef Divers, Dan Tibbetts was a dive tourism pioneer in the Cayman Islands. Dan also had a career as a developer building multiple condominiums and other projects and instilled in his children a love for the Islands.

Dan Tibbetts passed away in 2006 and his businesses have continued to grow under the leadership of his three children Jessica Tibbetts, Emily Tibbetts Allenbach and Michael Tibbetts.
